April Foolishness

April 2008

We all know that parenting is the hardest job we'll have in our lives. But how much enjoyment are you finding that you get out of this profession? With April being the month that starts out with a little foolishness and fun, authors Kay Willis and Maryann Bucknum Brinley well written parenting book asks "Are We Having Fun Yet? The 16 Secrets of Happy Parenting".

This is just the book busy parents need to help themselves quickly take a breath, get inspired and then remember to take that moment to enjoy these fleeting days with our children. Sprinkled throughout with quick to read quotes, bolded areas which draw your eye to key points and lots of beneficial knowledge to be gained without having to read cover to cover - these authors realize what today's parents need.

The book examines what makes up "Happy Parents..." with each chapter defining an element of what encompasses this concept from "Enjoy Parenting - They Don't Endure It" to "Know that Attitude is Almost Everything" to "Know that Guilt Is a Waste of Time". You can pick and choose which of all 16 chapters fits your needs of the moment.

One of the most powerful quotes, from author John Bradshaw, expresses the purpose of this  beautifully "Loving your children isn't enough if you don't enjoy their company." Many parents can get so caught up in the rules and the fighting, the cleaning and the schlepping around that they can forget that enjoying being with the young humans they've created is as much a part of the goal as anything. So relax, have fun - no foolin'.
