Chronicles of Narnia-The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

1 Angel

Beautifully filmed, this classic children's book series presents the tale of three British children who were sent to the countryside to avoid London's bombings during World War II. In many ways this film is "Lord of the Rings" for children in that it's epic themes and battles of good triumphing over evil - with environmental and animal themes thrown in - ultimately have a happy ending. There are a number of scenes which sensitive children may find overwhelming so caution is urged - especially when the Witch and her minions abuse and humiliate the Lion. Also, if you hadn't heard, there are serious religious overtone in which the Lion, in the author of the books, admitted represented Jesus and light overcame dark.

Recommended.

Please Remember: Discuss the movie with them afterward! It is important to watch the show with them, at least the first time. This should not be considered a luxury option unless you are absolutely positive that you completely and wholeheartedly approve of all of the content contained in the viewing experience!

Regardless, it is crucial that you at least talk with them about what they thought about what they just saw:

bullet What did they like the most?
bullet What about that did they enjoy?
bullet Was there anything they didn't like?
bullet What was it about that part that had them feel that way?
bulletWho were your favorite characters, and why?

The discussion can be as important or often more valuable experience than the movie itself! Do not loose the opportunity to teach your values, clarify their uncertainties or explain what they saw. This helps them develop their own reasoning skills. This returns control to your own household, teaches what your family values and reduces the power that media has to influence your children. And after all, isn't this what we want for our children?
